  1. that was an interesting story - of course having the know how to invest wisely is not something everyone has, and this guy is also handy enough to manage a rental property.

another big thing is that not only would you need to get a significant other on board with the lifestyle, you'd also need your whole family to be, and all your friends.

If you never went out for coffee, or dinner, or shopping or the movies with your friends, would you see them as much? You would need to have friends who want to stay in and cook, have game nights or go for bike rides... would you alienate yourself from anyone who wasn't like-minded with that kind of lifestyle?

  2. I was fascinated by his story, but you are so right, having that kind of stringent lifestyle would require everyone in your family and social network to have similar views which would not always be possible. My goal is to be free of my biggest debt (student loans) by age 40 and to aggressively save for retirement. I love having fun experiences with family and friends that cost money, travel, art, and obviously I love clothes and nice things. So for me it's about balance.

  3. That sounds like a good, attainable goal, and it is important to keep in mind that ultimately we want to be happy, and we need balance. Not everyone wants to ride a bike everywhere and never watch tv again.
